Saturday morning yoga sutra study and chanting
Saturday, January 13th to February 3rd, 2024
11am to Noon - $20 for the 4 week module
The Yoga Sutra of Patanjali is the foundational text for yoga philosophy. Over the course of the 4 weeks, we will examine the sutras relating to the practice of asanas and pranayama. Comprehending Patanjali’s definition of these practices makes yoga practice much deeper and much more relevant.
Before presenting a sutra, we will teach participants how to chant it. In our yoga tradition, chanting is used as a form of meditation which focuses and quiets the mind. While engaging one’s voice can feel intimidating, the particular form of chanting we teach uses only three notes and requires no prior voice or music training. Our teaching methodology also insures that your own voice is supported by the voice of the group. Very quickly you discover that chanting with others is a joyous practice which lifts the heart and puts the mind in a state of harmony and flow. A person can also choose to just listen. No one is ever asked to chant alone or even to chant at all.
Martine Burat is the teacher for this class. She has studied yoga and chanting for over 30 years.
