      <image:caption>We offer classes at various levels including Restorative.  Our goal is to support students in maintaining or regaining good physical function as well as cultivating an overall sense of well being, calmness, and clarity of mind. We specialize in adapting postures to the needs of each individual and emphasize skillful breathing while doing the postures.  When practicing this way, postures become a form of  meditation that calms restless thoughts, enhances energy, and strengthens the immune and nervous systems. Our classes are taught in series of 5 or 6 weeks where each class builds on the previous ones.  If a students is unable to commit to the full series, drop rates for individual classes are available or make ups in other appropriate classes are provided.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Personalized yoga instruction is a core part of our work. The individual setting enables the teacher to better comprehend the needs of a student and better address these needs. We are specifically trained in the therapeutic side of the various modalities (posture, breath work, sound, meditation, study of texts, etc…) which can all contribute to re-establish balance in our system. Private sessions can be useful in various situations:  If you wish to create, continue developing, revitalize a personal practice, or refine your level of understanding of the use of yoga beyond what is possible in a group setting, we can help you make your personal practice much more relevant to your current situation and circumstances. If you wish to complement the care you receive from your medical provider with regard to such health issues as stress reduction, hypertension, scoliosis, back and neck pain, sciatica, fibromyalgia, gastro-intestinal conditions, type II diabetes, arthritis, asthma, COPD, insomnia, osteoporosis, Parkinson’s disease, cancer, heart disease, depression, anxiety, etc., we can work in conjunction with your health care provider when necessary. If you feel more comfortable starting yoga through a few private classes, we can introduce you to the basic principles until you feel comfortable joining a group class.       <image:title>Mindfulness Meditation</image:title>
      <image:caption>Mindfulness Meditation 7 week Program To facilitate the development of meditation as a personal skill, this very comprehensive course provides experiential seated meditations, gentle yoga practices and didactic material on such topics as meditation, mindfulness, yoga, the science of stress, and current research. The yoga portion will be adapted to respect the ability and limitations of each participant so that it can effectively prepare the body and mind for the stillness that is essential for meditation. Past participants have shared that this course helped them to establish a personal daily meditation practice which had lasting positive influences on their personal and professional lives. The instructor David Jacobs received his MBSR teacher training at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, Center of Mindfulness, where the MBSR program was developed.  David taught the MBSR program to Syracuse University students through the University’s Counseling Center from 2008 to 2015. He also offered the course to the S.U. faculty and staff through the University Wellness Initiative, and to the community at large in programs at Upstate Yoga Institute and in workshops for various businesses and service agencies. In addition to his MBSR training, David has been a yoga teacher in the Krishnamacharya and Desikachar lineage at for over 24 years.</image:caption>
